What’s the difference between a ‘nutritionist’ and a ‘registered dietitian’?
A lot!
A ‘nutritionist’ is not a regulated term in this state, meaning anyone could label themself as such, regardless of their education or experience.
Training for a registered dietitian includes completing at least a 4-year bachelors degree in nutritional science and undergoes a rigorous 1200-hour practice internship in clinical care, food service management and community health services.
Dietitians understand the full scope of human anatomy, specific nutrition interventions for managing medical conditions and uses evidence-based, peer-reviewed studies to influence their patient care plans.
Jackie Durand is a certified registered dietitian (RD, CDN) in the State of Connecticut. She earned her bachelor’s degree in Nutritional Science at the University of Connecticut (Go Huskies!). She completed her practice internship through Wellness Workdays out of Boston, with site rotations all around the state of Connecticut.
She maintains her license by completing continuing education credits and renews every 5 years with the Commission on Dietetic Registration.
